What engine and transmission platforms do you specialize in?
We specialize in GM Gen IV V8 powertrains, including the 6.0L L76, 6.2L LS3/L99, 6.0L LS2, and GM Gen IV truck variants (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L). For automatic vehicles, we specialize in 6L80 6-speed transmission calibration (shift scheduling, torque converter clutch slip/lockup, and pressure curves).
Can tuning fix a check engine light, misfire, or bad idle?
No. Tuning optimizes calibration tables for a mechanically sound engine. Software cannot compensate for vacuum leaks, fouled plugs, burnt plug wires, failing fuel pumps, or improper valvetrain preload. All mechanical and electrical faults must be resolved before calibration can begin.
Do you offer chassis dyno tuning?
Currently, our in-person calibrations are completed via live in-vehicle street logging and real-world transient drivability testing. We also offer full remote tuning via email. Dyno-cell power pulls and full chassis dyno services will be integrated as facility milestones are completed.
What are HP Tuners credits and why do I have to pay for them?
HP Tuners uses a universal credit licensing model to unlock and flash individual vehicle control modules. For most GM Gen IV platforms:
ECM (Engine Controller): Requires 2 credits.
TCM (6L80 Transmission Controller): Requires 2 credits. Credits permanently license that specific vehicle’s VIN to the hardware interface. Licensing credits are direct costs from HP Tuners ($49.99/credit) and are billed separately from calibration labor unless purchased in our turnkey package.
Do I need to buy an HP Tuners device for remote tuning?
Yes. Remote tuning requires an HP Tuners interface (MPVI2+, MPVI3, or MPVI4) and a Windows laptop running VCM Suite. If you do not already own one, we offer a Turnkey Remote Tuning & Hardware Package that includes a brand-new MPVI4 interface, 2 universal credits, and your complete remote calibration.
Why is a wideband oxygen sensor required for remote tuning?
Factory narrow-band oxygen sensors only read accurately near stoichiometric air/fuel ratio (14.7:1 AFR). They cannot accurately measure fuel mixtures at Wide-Open Throttle (WOT) or under boost. To safely dial in power enrichment (PE) fueling and prevent engine damage on cammed or forced-induction builds, an aftermarket wideband controller (e.g., AEM, Ballenger, Innovate) with analog or CAN-bus output is mandatory.
What software and operating system do I need for remote tuning?
You need a laptop running Microsoft Windows (Windows 10 or 11) with the latest stable version of HP Tuners VCM Suite installed. Mac computers are only supported if running Windows via Boot Camp or a verified virtual machine environment (Parallels) with full USB pass-through enabled.
How long does a remote tune take to finish?
Most remote calibration packages are dialed in within 3 to 5 data log revision passes. Revisions are typically reviewed and returned via email within 24 to 72 business hours of receiving clean, readable .hpl data logs that match our channel configuration.
What happens if my car fails the pre-service tech inspection?
If your vehicle arrives with active fluid leaks, dangerous valvetrain noise, charging system failure, or safety hazards, the session will be paused immediately. You will have 30 calendar days to repair the issue and reschedule. One free 30-day extension is available if requested in writing at least 7 days before the deadline. Subsequent 30-day extensions are $29.99 each.
Do you offer a warranty on custom tunes?
Because high-performance motorsport and modified powertrains operate under extreme mechanical stress, we do not provide an expressed or implied warranty on mechanical engine, transmission, or drivetrain components. However, we stand behind our data with a 14-day calibration guarantee: if a drivability or fueling issue is identified through logs to be calibration-related, we adjust it at no charge.
(Note: Specific limited assembly warranties will apply exclusively to our upcoming in-house engine-building program once officially opened).
