Calibration and tuning optimize a mechanically sound powertrain; tuning cannot fix existing mechanical failures, improper wiring, vacuum leaks, or worn hardware.
To ensure vehicle safety, prevent engine damage, and maintain calibration accuracy, every vehicle must pass a pre-calibration technical inspection before an ECM/TCM read, flash, or datalogging session begins.
Fluid Levels & Condition: Fresh engine oil and transmission fluid filled to appropriate levels. No active coolant, oil, or fuel leaks.
Cooling System: Fully bled cooling system with a functional water pump, radiator, and electric fans cycling properly. Thermostats must operate correctly under load.
Spark & Ignition: Plugs must be properly gapped for your combination (colder heat ranges required for forced-induction/supercharged applications). Wires and boots must be free of burn marks or header contact.
Valvetrain Verification: On cammed or aftermarket valvetrain builds, pushrod length, lifter preload, and trunnion condition must be physically verified by the builder.
Drivetrain Safety: Solid driveshaft, carrier bearing, CV joints, and differential. Lug nuts torqued to factory specifications.
Battery & Charging: Battery must test healthy (holding a minimum of 12.4V resting) and the alternator must maintain 13.5V–14.5V under running load. Flashing with an unstable battery risks bricking the ECM.
OBD-II Port Access: The factory DLC port must have full uncompromised pin fitment with solid chassis ground and constant 12V power on Pin 16.
Sensors & Oxygen Monitoring: Upstream O2 sensors must be fully operational. If remote tuning wideband AFR error, an active wideband controller (AEM, Innovate, Ballenger) must be installed with an accessible analog or CAN-bus output.
Fuel Delivery: Clean fuel filter, verified fuel rail pressure under load, and verified injector flow data matching the physical injector part numbers installed. Minimum 93 octane in the tank unless calibrating specifically for E85/Flex Fuel.
If a vehicle fails pre-calibration technical inspection, all tuning services will be immediately delayed until the noted mechanical, electrical, or safety defects are fully corrected.
Correction & Reschedule Window: The vehicle owner has 30 calendar days from the date of the failed inspection to resolve all documented issues and reschedule their calibration session.
Extension Notification Window: Any request for an extension must be submitted in writing at least 7 calendar days before the current 30-day window expires. Requests made with fewer than 7 days remaining will not be accepted.
Extensions:
First Extension: One complimentary 30-day extension will be granted upon timely written request (submitted at least 7 days prior to expiration).
Subsequent Extensions: Any additional 30-day extension will incur a $29.99 fee per 30-day period, provided the 7-day advance notice requirement is met.
Declining an Extension / Expirations: If the client declines an extension, fails to provide the required 7-day advance notice, or allows the 30-day window to lapse, the booking expires. To resume services, the client must pay the standard Technical Diagnostic Fee to have the vehicle re-inspected and cleared before any calibration work proceeds.
Before work begins, the vehicle owner must complete and electronically sign the intake form below:
Powertrain Stress Acknowledgment: The client understands that high-performance calibration, wide-open throttle (WOT) datalogging, and power testing subject engine, transmission, and drivetrain components to elevated mechanical stress.
Pre-Existing Conditions: Thor's Performance & Tuning is not liable for component failures resulting from pre-existing mechanical defects, improper assembly by previous owners or third parties, faulty hardware, poor maintenance, or structural fatigue.
Emissions & Off-Road Compliance: The vehicle owner acknowledges that custom performance calibrations are intended solely for sanctioned motorsport competition or documented off-highway / closed-course vehicles. The client accepts full legal responsibility for operating their vehicle in compliance with all federal, state, and local emissions laws.
Inspection & Policy Agreement: The client confirms they have read, understood, and agreed to the Tech Inspection Failure & Rescheduling Policy above, including all 30-day timelines, extension fees ($29.99/extension), and re-inspection diagnostic fees.
1. No Expressed or Implied Mechanical Warranty (Current Tuning Services)
Due to the extreme operational stresses inherent to high-performance motorsport and performance calibrations, Thor’s Performance & Tuning offers NO WARRANTY—expressed or implied—on any engine, transmission, differential, or drivetrain components on customer-supplied vehicles. High-performance calibration modifies power delivery, cylinder pressures, and shift parameters. The vehicle owner assumes 100% of the risk and financial liability for any mechanical breakage, engine failure, or component wear occurring during or after the calibration process.
2. Calibration Support Guarantee
While we do not warrant pre-existing mechanical hardware, we stand behind our calibration files. If a drivability issue, idle hunting, or fueling error is determined through datalogging to be caused by calibration parameters rather than mechanical defect, we will adjust and refine the calibration file free of charge within 14 calendar days of the completed session.
3. Future In-House Engine Building Programs
When Thor’s Performance & Tuning officially opens order intake for in-house short block, long block, and custom engine builds, a dedicated Limited Workmanship & Assembly Warranty will be released. That specific engine building policy will outline defined coverage terms for in-house machined and assembled components, documented break-in protocols, oiling verification, and manufacturer-backed rotating assembly warranties.
4. Third-Party Parts & Assembly
For all non-in-house built engines, we do not manufacture mechanical engine parts, camshafts, valvetrain, or forced-induction hardware. Any hardware warranties exist solely through the original equipment or aftermarket manufacturer (e.g., Brian Tooley Racing, Fuel Injector Clinic, Melling, Whipple).
5. Voiding Conditions
Calibration support is immediately void if:
The vehicle is run on unapproved or lower-octane fuel than calibrated for (e.g., running 87 octane on a 93-octane tune).
Hardware is altered or swapped after the final tune file is delivered (e.g., swapping pulleys, intakes, injectors, or sensors) without scheduling a recalibration.
The customer or a third party flashes, alters, or overrides the ECM/TCM file using any tuning suite.
